Once again material-technology group Umicore is happy to be the main sponsor of the third generation of the Umicore Solar Team, and definitely after they won the silver medal in Australia in October 2007. For some years now Umicore has been following the ups and downs of the Umicore Solar Team and has supplied the highly efficient germanium substrates as the basis for solar cells.

The support we are offering the Solar Teams 1, 2, 3,... is a result of our conviction that we must achieve lower emissions. The solar car is an example of what we have currently been able to achieve on a limited scale: energy acquired from the sun, no clutches or belts and smaller brakes, in other words, less fine and fewer materials. This will make it possible for us all to keep on driving in the future. All we need to do now is work on a more logical road network and we're ready to face the future.

The von Karman Institute is a non-profit international educational and scientific organisation, hosting three departments (aeronautics and aerospace, environmental and applied fluid dynamics, and turbomachinery & propulsion). It provides post-graduate education in fluid dynamics ** and encourages "training in research through research".
