21 engineering students started in July 2016 with the design of the seventh Belgian solar car: the Punch 2. The new team was more numerous than previous teams and for the first time consisted of both industrial and civil engineers. They did not hide their ambitions: a first place at the World Championship in Australia was the ultimate goal. At the previous World Solar Challenge, the Belgians finished just one and a half hours from the winner, after 3021 kilometres of racing through the Outback.
In the end, the Punch 2 crossed the finish line of the 2017 World Solar Challenge in third place. As icing on the cake, the team took home the Technical Innovation Award.
The Punch 2 is revolutionary in many ways compared to its predecessors.
